With funding from the Age-Friendly Community Planning Grant from the Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat, the Town of Hanover undertook and Council approved the Age-Friendly Needs Assessment Report. The Age-Friendly Advisory Committee was created in June 2017 and involves community and agency representatives. With grant funding through the Province of Ontario's, Seniors Community Planning Grant, the committee launched the Age-Friendly Speaker Series in November 2017, hosted agency meetings to discuss communication strategy, conducting walkability assessment and enhanced the Senior Star newsletter.
Our committee continues to make progress:
- Monthly Age-Friendly information ad in the Hanover Post - 3rd Thursday of every month until March 2019
- Senior Star Newsletter - Fall edition delivered directly to Hanover homes in early October. Spring edition will be delivered in March 2019
- Speaker Series - Information session for older adults began in November 2018. FREE information sessions with a variety of topics. See www.hanover.ca for the schedule or contact the office at the P & H Centre, 519.364.2310 x 2121
- Walkability assessment - assessment information from August work is being tabulated. Volunteers will walk the same routes in the winter to log their notes.
The committee meets monthly on third Tuesday at 2:00pm. Age-Friendly updates available online at hanover.ca/age-friendly-hanover.
