Civic Theatre

Hanover Civic Theatre

The Town is proud of our Civic Theatre building located in our downtown core at 443 10th Avenue. The Civic Theatre has been a focal point in our community since 1911.

The Civic Theatre and Community Hall are part of the Hanover Civic Centre, and have the following features:

  • a bandshell style stage with access to backstage area and lower level dressing rooms
  • tiered seating for 275 audience members
  • climate controlled environment
  • accessible by elevator with up to 6 wheelchair accessible seating spaces (pending size of wheelchairs)
  • lighting system (requires Town lighting technician to be hired)
  • access to the Community Hall for intermission and souvenir sales

The Hanover Civic Theatre is home to a number of community groups dedicated to cultural pursuits. Some of these include the Hanover Community Players and the Grey-Bruce Singers.

The Civic Theatre is an excellent community facility providing a nostalgic theatre environment. The tiered seating, lighting, acoustics and band shell stage are the facility's strengths. This facility offers a year round source of fine entertainment, including concerts, dance recitals, theatrical productions, both professional and amateur, and more.

Other Cultural Initiatives

Hanover’s arts and culture opportunities are varied. Residents and visitors can enjoy theatre, singing, dancing and art. There are a variety of arts and culture programs offered by Hanover based volunteer organizations, private business operators and independent artists who reside in or near our Town.

Cultural Plan - Cultural Assets Inventory

A cultural assets inventory will identify Hanover's cultural resources such as festivals, events, commuity cultural organizations, cultural occupations, facilities and heritage. Watch for details later this spring for an opportunity to contribute to the creation of Hanover's cultural inventory. Knowlege building regarding cultural assets mapping and cultural planning continues so when available funding is allocated, a Culture Plan will be initiatied.

Public Display of Art

We're looking for art pieces to display at Town facilities!

Our town provides the opportunity for Hanover artists of various ages and stages, from amateur to professional to display their art in the Civic Centre, the Medical Clinic, or the Hanover Public Library. Designated spaces vary in size and are suitable only for artwork that can be wall mounted. Hanover residents interested in having their work displayed must complete and submit a Public Display of Art Form. The policy and form are available from the Library, Municipal Office, P & H Centre, or by clicking on the link below.

Canada Day Art Challenge

Our home and creative land!  To celebrate Canada's 150th Birthday, we want to see your creativity run wild.  We are looking for colourful entries using a varieity of mediums to create an illustration that shows what Canada means to you.

Artwork must be an original illustration in colour on an 81/2 x 11" paper using any of the following mediums:  paint, pastels, inks, coloured pencils, markers or crayons.  Contest deadline is June 1, 2017.  Artwork will be displayed at the P & H Centre and at the Canada Day festivities.  For more information, contact Laura Webb at 519.364.2310 X2128 or at
