Hanover Canada Day 2020

The Town of Hanover is celebrating Canada Day a little differently this year! Together as a community we are meeting one of the greatest challenges in our country’s recent history and this year Canada Day will be like no other!

In order to celebrate our Canadian pride while practicing physical distancing, the Town of Hanover, in partnership with Wightman and many other community supporters are planning a new way to celebrate Canada Day, including a virtual presentation on Wightman TV Channel 6 and YouTube July 1st at 7pm!

LOUD & PROUD | Hey Hanover, we need you to lend us your voice this Canada Day! KIDS SAY WHAT? | Kids can say the darndest things!  It’s true, kids do say the darndest things. The cute innocence of kids often make us laugh and their logic can be baffling and entertaining! This Canada Day we want to hear from our youngest residents! For the next six (6) weeks we will release a new question each week to ask your child.

CANADA DAY IN COLOUR | The maple leaf is an iconic symbol of our Canadian heritage! Join Hanover Artist Bev Morgan as you are guided through a free tutorial on how to create a maple leaf in water colour in honour of Canada Day. All artistic abilities are welcome! Even if you have a hard time drawing stick figures just be-LEAF in yourself! Bev has prepared a step by step instructions for all ages and artistic abilities!

We want to see your creations! Submit a digital picture of your masterpiece to our online dropbox before June 22, 2020 for your chance to win prizes and for your painting be included in the Town of Hanover’s Canada Day virtual presentation.

SUPPLY LIST:

Paper: Watercolour paper (140lb) is best, but heavy stock white paper may be used.

Paints: Three Primary Colours (Red, Yellow, Blue) any watercolour manufacturer. In the video Bev used Watercolour Paints: Quinacridone Red, Quinacridone Gold, Ultramarine Blue.

Brushes: Watercolour brushes: One small flat brush and two round brushes.

Misc. Items: Palette, pencil, eraser, paper towel, dropper bottle, toothpick.

Note: Watercolour pencils can also be used when paints are not available. Refer to these instructions: Cover maple leaf first with watercolour pencils (Red and Yellow) then use a wet brush and blend the colours together. When dry, add veins with dark brown colour and shadow with a violet colour.

GREAT CANADIAN SCAVENGER HUNT| The Town of Hanover invites you to celebrate Canada Day this year with a family friendly scavenger hunt! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to solve riddles and find clues throughout the Town of Hanover for your chance to win an epic prize! This hunt is a FUN event and you will not be timed, so you can walk, bike or drive, either way your skills will be tested!

IT’S EASY TO PARTICIPATE!

  1. Your scavenger hunt card will be available for pick up at the P&H Centre (main entrance) on Canada Day July 1, 2020 between 10am-2pm or download a pdf printable version of Scavenger Hunt card CLICK HERE 
  2. Complete your mission.
  3. Drop off your completed card in the drop box located at the P&H Center by 6:00 pm July 1, 2020.
  4. Win Prizes! Your completed card will receive a free family pass for the Hanover Regional Aquatic Centre and you will be automatically entered into a draw to win over $500 in Hanover Chamber Bucks!

RULES

  1. This event will comply with all COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time of the event. This includes physical distancing, avoiding crowds and teammates should be members of your household.  If at any point during your hunt there is another team already at a location, we ask everyone to co-operate, wait your turn, and only proceed when the site is clear.   
  2. Only one contest entry per household

You are responsible to follow all of the rules of the road and laws.
