The Hanover Downtown Improvement Area (D.I.A.) was established in 1977, and is an area running from: 6th Avenue along 10th Street to 14th Street, and one block North and South.
The D.I.A. Board of Management is an organization set up to promote and make physical improvements in the downtown core. Funding is raised by a tax levy on the assessed property value in the D.I.A.
The D.I.A. places spring banners and summer flowers in the downtown core. The D.I.A. together with the Hanover Chamber of Commerce places Canada Flags along 10th Street and 7th Avenue during the summer months, and together with the Town of Hanover decorate the downtown during the Christmas season.
In 2004, the D.I.A. partnered with the Hanover Chamber of Commerce and Town of Hanover to form the Hanover Project Centre, now known as C.I.P., the Community Improvement Partnership. The primary objective was to create an event to attract people to our community. To that end, we now have the Hanover Sights & Sounds Festival, which continues to be a great success since the first festival in 2005. C.I.P. also coordinates promotion opportunties for our DIA businesses, as well as the Trick or Treat Trail in October.
