Media Release - On March 14, 2022, at 4 p.m., the Town of Hanover terminated the COVID-19 Emergency Declaration which has been in place in Hanover since March 30, 2020. The decision was made today following a meeting of the Town of Hanover Emergency Control Group.

“The emergency declaration gave the Town more flexibility to tap into resources and to signify the importance of public health measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The municipality continued to offer services, but in different ways. The termination of the emergency indicates that the end of the pandemic is in sight,” said Mayor Sue Paterson. “It has been a difficult time for both residents and businesses and we can be very thankful for the tireless efforts of our dedicated health care workers. I am incredibly proud of our community and I thank everyone for doing their part.”

The Town’s decision to terminate the emergency aligns with the action of Grey County, many neighbouring counties and municipalities, as well as decisions from the Province to ease restrictions. The decision was reached in consultation with the Grey Bruce Health Unit.

In a Grey County release, Warden Hicks stated, “The Grey Bruce Health Unit has played a pivotal role in this public health emergency. On behalf of County Council and the people of Grey County, I send our sincere thanks to our Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ian Arra, and the dedicated team of professionals at the Health Unit for helping guide us through this emergency.”

Although the emergency declaration has been lifted, COVID-19 remains present in our communities. The Town of Hanover encourages the public to continue monitoring for symptoms, and to stay informed of updates through Grey Bruce Public Health, the Province, and the Federal Government. The Town of Hanover also requests that all residents continue to be proactive with hygiene, personal distancing and self-isolation protocols as outlined by the Provincial Medical Officer of Health.
